About Us:

Madison County is kicking-off a bicentennial celebration to honor its 200th Birthday!

Officially named after President James Madison - Madison County, the thirty-eighth  county formed in Georgia, was created Dec. 5, 1811 from land held by Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Jackson and Oglethorpe counties.

A series of year-long celebration events are being organized, beginning with the establishment of the Madison County Bicentennial Committee. Committee members include Rhonda Wooten, Chairperson; Dianne Anderson, Promotions and Marketing; Luanne Byrd, Public Relations and Sponsorship; Sandra Webb, Promotions and Marketing; Linda Fortson; Historian, Dick Perpall, Event Coordinator; Will Mauldin, Event Coordinator; and Beth Harmon, Administrative Services.

Let's have some fun! All Madison County citizens, churches, schools, cities and businesses are welcomed and encouraged to participate in celebrating this milestone. Events are scheduled to include a Bicentennial Festival on Sept. 24, 2011, a reinactment of the first Board of Commissioner's Meeting ( in full 1811 costume) and reception on Dec. 5, 2011, special community and city functions, dances, promotions, bake sales, silent auctions and participation in festivals throughout each month in 2011.

The Bicentennial Committee is in need of sponsors and donations. All monetary sponsorships and donations are tax deductible.

A buy-local effort has also been implemented in an effort to keep all business associated with the celebration inside Madison County including the sale, manufacture, or donation of custom t-shirts, hats, and other commemorative items.

For promotions and merchandising, contact Sandra Webb at swebb@madisonco.us.
