MOAS, the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter, was originally conceived as a solution to the stray animal population in Madison and Oglethorpe Counties, and we still serve that role today by accepting all strays and unwanted dogs and cats from Madison and Oglethorpe County residents. Our mission is to save as many pets as possible while reducing the unwanted pet population. Visit our website: MOAS Pets

MOAS is a modern shelter, which can comfortably house over 120 animals. The shelter is situated on 20 acres of land leased from Madison County. The building was constructed by a contractor hired by MOAS. The cost of shelter construction was financed completely through private donations! Currently, the county pays only $3.25 per person, per year, based on the most recent census. Private donations, fundraising, and grants make up the rest of the shelter's operating budget.

Services offered are:

  • Monthly low-cost vaccine clinics

  • Low-cost spay/neuter program, which currently includes a “Spay it Forward” program for those with difficulty paying even our low prices

  • Assistance with trapping and altering feral cats

  • A community pet food bank

There are numerous wonderful dogs, cats, puppies and kittens looking for permanent homes. All adopted animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and de-wormed prior to going to their new homes. Vaccinations appropriate to the age of the animal are provided. The shelter microchips all adopted animals.
