Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1.When will the grass be cut along my road?

Currently, we have two mowing crews responsible maintaining the grass shoulders. It takes each crew roughly, depending on weather, 8-12 weeks to complete a cycle. So, from the time they make a pass it'll roughly take 8-12 weeks to make another through your area.

2.When will my dirt road be scraped?

The road scraping crew runs a cycle though the county. This cycle can take anywhere from 8-12 weeks depending on the shape and maintenance needed of the roads. Some roads will be scraped more frequently than others due to the amount of traffic on them. If your road is in particularly bad condition, feel free to contact us at 706-795-6260 or by filling out the Road Complaint Form.

3.When will my dirt road be paved?

Decisions as to which dirt roads to pave are made by the Board of Commissioners based on citizen input as well as input from the Public Works Director. Paving dirt roads is very extensive and requires a large amount of human and equipment resources.  While we strive to make all our roads better and safer for our citizens, our primary goal is to maintain and repair our existing paved roadways.

4.My drive pipe is blocked or damaged. What do I do?

If your driveway pipe is blocked, the Road Department will try to unstop it for you. If we are unable to get in unstopped, and a replacement is needed, then a contractor or the property owner will have to have it replaced. The Road Department is not responsible for replacing driveway pipes unless we damage them, or we have to move the old one to make improvements to the road.

5.How to report a damaged or missing road, or road name sign?

In the event you see a damaged, or missing road name sign, feel free to either call the office at 706-795-6260, or email the office at Ijordan@madisonco.us. Please make sure to include your name, number, address or location of sign, and type of sign to be replaced. Be advised that ordering of signage replacements does take time and will not be replaced immediately.  We order what is needed on a quarterly bases to reduce cost to the tax payers.

6.How to report a dead animal carcass?

It's important that you contact the Road Department, and not 911 if you see a deer carcass along any county road. The Road Department will only remove deer from County Roads, not domesticated animals such as dogs or cats. In the event that the animal is in the middle of the road and my be a travel safety issue please contact 911 so a deputy can control traffic until it can be removed.  By limiting the calls to the 911 center this will free up those lines for important emergency calls.  We will respond to calls within the working hours of Monday through Friday from 7:30a.m. to 4:30p.m. We request that any deer carcasses be reported in a timely manner.  We are not equip to remove carcasses that have started to decompose.
