Winter Storm Alert for Madison County- January 30th through February 1st
The latest National Weather Service forecast for Madison County calls for a winter storm impacting our area from Friday through Sunday, with the potential for accumulating snow, very cold temperatures, and hazardous travel conditions.
What to expect (per the latest NWS forecast):
Wintry precipitation possible beginning Friday and continuing into the weekend.
Periods of snow and mixed precipitation may lead to slick and hazardous roads, especially at night and during early morning hours.
Temperatures falling below freezing, with wind chills even colder, could create dangerous conditions for people, pets, and exposed pipes.
How to Prepare:
Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of wintry precipitation; use extra caution on bridges.
Bring pets indoors and protect pipes, plants, and outdoor faucets from freezing.
Check on your neighbors, especially older adults or anyone without reliable heat.
Make sure you have flashlights, blankets, and fully charged devices in case of power outages.

Madison County has declared a Local state of Emergency due to the approaching winter storm.
This declaration allows county agencies to activate emergency operations, coordinate resources, and respond quickly as conditions change. Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware, limit travel once the storm begins, and follow updates from official local channels.

Madison County Announces Long-Term Closure of SR 106 at the Hudson River for GDOT Bridge Project. The Madison County Board of Commissioners has been formally notified by APAC-Atlantic, Inc., in coordination with the Georgia department of Transportation (GDOT), of an upcoming long-term road closure on State Route (SR) 106 at the Hudson River, affecting travel between Madison and Franklin Counties.
The closer is required to support construction activities associated with GDOT Projects PI0013808 and PI 0016526, which include bridge replacement work over Nails Creek and the Hudson River.
